Spring, like the seasons of Summer, Fall, and Winter, each have their place in the year and in our lives. We should strive to utilize each for what it can offer us.
Where I live it is Spring and the weather is beckoning me to get outside. I have fertilized the lawn, mowed it, and done my first weeding job in the yard. Next comes cleaning off the patio and its furniture. Fortunately, my house is only four years so I do not have to worry about its maintenance and repair yet. However, my wife and I have already decided on a few changes to bushes and flowers in our yard plan and will act on these in the next few weeks. She will soon go to the nursery to buy some flowers to put in for this season. They always add some color to a yard and help to add personality to your home.
Spring activities include more than the house and yard concerns mentioned above. There is that annual spring cleaning, which is more thorough than what you do periodically throughout the year. For many people, it is time to look at all their material possessions and perhaps hold a garage sale to get rid of some of it. It is a time to look at fences, decks, buildings, etc. to see what condition they are in and if some maintenance or repair is needed.
Spring is also a time to spend more time outdoors. Enjoy nature and all that it offers. There are blossoms and new buds on bushes and trees. The many colors of nature are returning. Some animals like birds may be returning to your area. You can take a walk in a park or a hike in the woods. Have your first picnic. Take more walks in your neighborhood to get more exercise and say hello to neighbors too. Get involved in some sports.
The real meaning of Spring is that it is a new growing season. This is true for your yard, as well as for all the farms in your area. It is a time to plant. This is followed by cultivation and nurturing. Eventually comes the harvest in the summer and fall seasons.
Besides the suggestions above, here are more ways for you to experience a new growing season in your life
- Get out of bed earlier and become more productive.
- Spend less time in the easy chair of your living room and be more active in your lifestyle.
- Start some projects for the coming months like landscaping outside or remodeling inside the house.
- Develop new habits. Start a new hobby.
- Participate in some new activities.
- Go to new places.
- Make some new friends.
In these and many other ways you are planting seeds. Nurture and cultivate them, and with time they will produce good fruits or benefits in your own life and in the lives of others. This is the real blessing that comes from Spring. It can be material in nature, as well as bring social, mental, and spiritual benefits too.
What are you waiting for? It is your Spring and your life! Make it a productive spring for yourself and your family. Remember, good stewardship implies using opportunities to do good things that will help yourself and others.
